Discover The Past Engage With The Present
We have amazing stories to tell
The Cairns Museum has stories to tell about life in a tropical climate: the hot and humid build up to the wet season, cyclones, floods and lightning and the magic weather of the dry season.
Stories of beautiful creatures, unique diseases, scary predators, rainforests (you might call them ‘jungles’), the Great Barrier Reef, sugar cane and bananas. Of White Australia, Aboriginal resistance and European isolation. Of backpackers, hippies and tourists.
The Cairns Museum is founded on the Cairns Historical Society’s amazing collection of objects, photographs and archival records. This collection holds the secrets and memories of the people, places, events and changing environment of Cairns and Far North Queensland.
The Cairns Museum is supported by local volunteers and sponsors. Why don’t you get involved?
