Collect, conserve, share
The Cairns Historical Society was formed in 1958 to record the written, pictorial and oral history of North Queensland.
From humble beginnings we have amassed a nationally significant collection of documents, journals, books, photographs, maps, manuscripts and objects that all relate to the history of Far North Queensland.
Our collections are available to anyone with a project or a research question. Our experienced volunteers can assist with requests in person or via email.
If you are doing any kind of research on Far North Queensland, Cairns, tropical Australia, Australian landscapes, Indigenous history or colonial records from Queensland, our collection will be extremely useful to you.
