MacDonnells Law
Founded in Cairns in 1884, MacDonnells Law is now one of Queensland’s largest independent law firms, with offices in Brisbane, Townsville and Cairns. For 133 years, MacDonnells Law has advised a wide range of companies, government authorities and individuals, and prides itself on its innovative approach to client service, work practices, and market-leading thinking.
Links between the Society and MacDonnells go back to 1958, when H.K.N MacDonnell became the Society’s first honorary solicitor. HKN also wrote 4 bulletins of local history for the Society and donated a range of local artefacts to the Museum.
HKN also served at the Society’s Honorary Solicitor until his retirement in 1966. Other MacDonnells Partners that have filled this role are Bernie Treston, and from 2016 Russell Beer.
MacDonnells pro bono services enable the Society to direct cash resources into core operational and collections care costs. The engagement of a respected partner in a respected law firm also helps us manage and identify risk across a suite of Society and Museum activities.
The Society is only one of a number of Cairns’ sporting, charity and industry groups that benefit from MacDonnells genuine commitment to corporate social responsibility.
