Delve into the charm of Snail Mail by crafting postcards inspired by museum treasures, and then embark on a journey as a Mini Museum Explorer, uncovering the past through hands-on experiences with historical artefacts. Make a day out, embark on our family-friendly Activity Trails and much more!

Week one
3 to 5 April
Have you heard of Snail Mail?
10:00–11:30 am (Wed, Thur, Fri)
5-12 years
Are you creative and like to draw and write? Come in and explore the Museum before you sit down to design and write your own postcards to send out to your family, friends or even yourself! Use your favourite objects as inspiration from Cairns Museum and find out just how fun Snail Mail can be.

Week two
8 to 10 April
Mini Museum Explorers
10:00–11:30 am (Mon, Tue, Wed)
5-12 years
Explore the Cairns Museum with our guides followed by getting hands on, close up and personal with Cairns Museum objects, as you discover how kids used to live in your great-grandparents day! Lots of interesting and curious objects, items, toys and games to touch and learn about. Become a Mini Museum Explorer at the Cairns Museum.

Museum Activity Trails

Colouring-In Competition

Suitable for all ages!
Could your artwork be the one displayed in the pride of place? Lucky winners will have their colouring in sheets framed and hung in the Kids Workshop Space for 2024 as well as a Cairns Museum Prize Pack! Collect your sheet from Museum Reception and head to the Verandah to do your best work.
