Step into a world of imagination and history at Cairns Museum. Embark on a journey as a Mini Museum Explorer, uncovering the past through hands-on experiences with historical artefacts. Then, create, build, engineer and craft Joyful Structures, or Clickety Clack your way to knitting a scarf with chopsticks!

Week one
26 and 28 June
Mini Museum Explorer & Joyful Structures
10:00–11:30 am (Wed & Fri)
6-12 years
Explore the Cairns Museum with our guides followed by getting hands on, close up and personal with Cairns Museum objects, as you discover how kids used to live in your great-grandparents day! Then, use your imagination and explore the wonderful world of Chickpea Creations. Become a chemist, architect or artist as you make Joyful Structures of all shapes and sizes.

Week two
1 and 2 July
Mini Museum Explorer & Clickety Clack – Knit a scarf with Chopsticks!
10:00–11:30 am (Mon & Tue)
6-12 years
Explore the Cairns Museum with our guides followed by getting hands on, close up and personal with Cairns Museum objects, as you discover how kids used to live in your great-grandparents day! Then, Keep yourself warm and knit a scarf with chopsticks! Simple to do and loads of fun with an impressive warm woolly result!

Colouring-in Competition

Could your artwork be the one displayed in the pride of place? Lucky winners will have their colouring in sheets framed and hung in the Kids Workshop Space for 2024 as well as a Cairns Museum Prize Pack! Collect your sheet from Museum Reception and head to the Verandah to do your best work.
