Cairns Museum is throwing open its doors and letting kids in for free with every adult ticket on Saturday, August 24.
A special program of events and activities has been designed for children on Saturday morning, along with some unique tours of the Museum to excite and enchant the small fry.
The Cairns Museum Open Day will also have a special adult admission of just $10 for the day.
The morning will focus on kid’s activities, while the afternoon will be about the adults, who can relax on the coolest tropical verandah in Cairns.
Suzanne Gibson, manager of Cairns Museum, said the Open Day with free entry for kids and discounted admission for adults, meant the whole family could join the fun for very little cost.
There will be kids’ museum tours every half hour between 9am and 12.30 pm including a glow in the dark freaky science session.
The Minjil cultural dance group will lead the way in exploration of corroboree, ochre for face and body decoration and the fundamentals of Bama dance before everyone can try dancing to the beat.
There will also be the opportunity to play dress up and role play favourite characters from Cairns’ past, as well as craft tables and face painting to keep the little ones happy.
And adults? Well they can make great use of the Museum’s spacious south veranda with a cool drink while listening to some live music in the afternoon.
“We get to share the Museum with as many people as possible and make an entertaining, educational day for the families of Cairns, who ‘own’ the Museum as much as anyone.
“It’s great to see kids learning about the history of Cairns, being spellbound by the stories and exhibits and beginning a relationship with the Museum, which hopefully will last all their lives.”
The museum will open an hour earlier at 9am and close at 4pm. For the full program of events and times visit www.cairnsmusem.org.au
