A fun and interactive audio trail is now available for children visiting the Cairns Museum.
The Cairns Museum, with children’s theatre specialists Box Jelly Theatre and CQU School of Education & the Arts, have teamed up to create a playful and engaging Kid’s Explorer Trail designed for upper primary-aged children.

The audio trail is enhanced by hands-on engagements that take place in the Museum. The trail can be enjoyed by kids alone or as part of a family activity and is available at the Museum reception.
Museum Box Jelly team leader Rachel Terry is an actor, writer and director with a strong background in children’s theatre, theatre in schools and community theatre. Through Box Jelly Theatre, Rachel has a body of quality work developed in association with children and young adults from diverse backgrounds.
The Museum’s Children’s Program Leader, a qualified primary school teacher, has overseen the project, with the Museum Manager supporting through curatorial insight, information and storylines. Cairns Museum’s knowledgeable guides have also provided input into the project’s research and testing phase.
The final sound design for the tour was created by CQU Creative Arts Associate Lecturer Patty Preece and students from her studio production and sound design course.
The project was funded by the Cairns Museum, with assistance from Cairns Regional Council and Arts Queensland through the Regional Arts Development Fund, a partnership that supports local arts and culture in regional Queensland.
