MUSEUM EVENTS: 15 DECEMBER 2020

Local Collectors – Teddy Powell’s Miniature Steam Engines
The Tinkerer
Tinkerer: one who enjoys experimenting with and repairing machine parts
Teddy Powell comes from a line of tinkerers. His father could turn his hand to fixing or remodelling anything mechanical. Teddy spend his childhood watching and learning how engines work.
It was love at first sight when Teddy saw his first model stationary steam engine. Pretty soon he was buying new, used and collectable engines and tinkering with them.
As a tinkerer, Teddy has the skills to bring his collection to life. These are working engines in miniature, attached to moving accessories. Notice the Ferris Wheel, the Merry Go Round or the cement mixer. It’s Teddy skills at fixing, mixing and imagining working models that make this collection special.
Teddy will be demonstrating his working models every day at 10.30; 11.30 and 12.30. In between, you can talk to him about tinkering, engines and growing up in Far North Queensland.
