Happy Holidays at Cairns Museum Museum News: 15 December 2019

From cooking to craft, the Cairns Museum will make summer fun these holidays with a packed program of events and activities for kids.

Suzanne Gibson, manager of Cairns Museum, said the museum was brimming with ideas to keep children – and adults – entertained these holidays.

Activities start on Monday, December 16 and continue right through to January 25.

“We have put together a range of different activities for school-aged children, working with small local businesses to offer something a bit different, but with a definite Far North Queensland flair.”

“For the first time we are also offering workshops with artist Sonia La Spina.

“There will be three sessions tailored for children of different ages. Kids will spend time with objects in the Museum then work with Sonia to develop skills in sketching, colour mixing, brush techniques, shading and toning.”

In addition to the workshops, Ms Gibson said the much-loved themed kids’ tours would return along with the popular My Dream Bedroom diorama workshop based on the Small World exhibition of Les Paul’s miniature works of art.

“Working with Modern Pantry, children’s cooking will once again be offered while we are expecting a lot of interest in our new puppet making workshops,” Ms Gibson added.

Many of the sessions/workshops are free with entry, but some do have a cost. It is advised to book early to avoid disappointment. The full program can be found at www.cairnsmuseum.org.au/news/museum-events.

Cairns Museum is located at the corner of Lake and Shields Street. For more information contact 4051 5582 or email email/info)(cairnsmuseum.org.au.
