SCHOOL HOLIDAYS ARE COMING AT CAIRNS MUSEUM

MUSEUM NEWS: 18 SEPTEMBER 2019

Cairns Museum has a jam-packed school holiday program with everything from code breaking to retro baking to miniature room making.

Most of the sessions are free with entry and with the Museum open on Sundays as well as every day during the school holidays, there is something for all youngsters to do and see.

The program runs from September 23 to October 3. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

One of the highlights of the program is a special kids cooking session, ‘Recipes to Remember’, where children can get messy and have fun making the dishes and baking their grandparents used to enjoy. The session is designed for children from six to 12.

Suzanne Gibson, manager of Cairns Museum, said the highly engaging and varied school holiday program was a first for the Museum. The sessions are a little learning and a whole lot of fun.”

Ms Gibson said the Code Breakers session was an opportunity to learn the skills that played a part in countries winning wars. The sessions are for youngsters seven to 12 years.

“Kids will learn Morse Code and use their new found skills to make and break secret codes,” she added.

Inspired by the genius of master craftsman Les Paul, children will also have the chance to design and make their own perfect bedroom diorama – in miniature. My Dream Bedroom is best for kids 9 to 12 years.

The Museum is also partnering with Minjil Cultural Services to keep kids entertained and enthused.

“Minjil are wonderful with kids, with lots of hands-on sharing of culture, language and dance. They were a real hit at out Open Day and they are back by popular demand,” she said.

Kids can also take a guided tour of the museum, which promises to be interactive, informative and most of all fun.

The tours enable children to explore the museum in a new and exciting way. Best for children aged seven to 12 years.
